You know Harley Viera-Newton but meet her label HVN.

“My everyday uniform, for as long as I can remember now, has been a dress,” says model/DJ Harley Viera-Newton on the reason behind launching her new line of It-girl-approved dresses, aptly titled HVN.

Viera-Newton’s eye and love of vintage, particularly marieprom dresses, kick-started her desire to launch the label, especially given the limitations vintage can have.

“I fell in love with vintage and it really quickly became my go-to uniform, and sort of through that obsession I realised that I was finding these incredible classic silhouettes, but unfortunately in vintage you would find great shapes but the fabric would be not a great fabric or just the condition of the dress would be poor, or I would find amazing prints that I loved but the shape of the dress was not salvageable.”

Armed with this knowledge, Viera-Newton got HVN off the ground in just two years, designing the prints and playing with silhouettes to find the perfect fit(s) for women of every age and body type.

“At the end of the day, the prints are fun and bold, they are simple dresses. I want them to be the go-to in your closet that you can throw on when you don’t have time to overthink what you’re wearing; you know it feels great for that reason, having the right fit was essential.”

The silhouettes are classics for a reason, the 40s tea dress with a nipped wait and collar makes the perfect canvas for Viera-Newton’s whimsical prints; cherries, gingham and hearts are a mode day nod to the past while appealing to different tastes.

“[The HVN] woman doesn’t necessarily have time to agonise over her outfits each moing, and doesn’t necessarily have time to stop home and change, and it’s just the idea of the on-the-go girl who wants the easy option whether she travels a lot or wants to throw a few in her bag,” says Viera-Newton of the collection.
